Author Biographies

  • Laura Nsafou

Laura Nsafou is a French writer of Martiniquais and Congolese descent, and the author of the blog Mrs Roots. She has published novels, graphic novels, and children's books, including Comme un million de papillons noirs (Like a Million Black Butterflies, Cambourakis, 2018). Her most recent work is an Afrofuturist trilogy published by Albin Michel, which includes Nos jours brûlés (Our Scorched Days, 2021), Les Flammes ivoire (Ivory Flames, 2022), and Le Dernier feu (The Last Fire, 2023). The three volumes follow the journey of Elikia—a young girl whose name means “hope”—as she travels through Francophone Africa in search of the Sun, which mysteriously disappeared 20 years earlier. This coming-of-age journey leads her to an invisible world full of magic, one she never knew existed.
